The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is not a club, it is a theocracy in the original sense of the word "Greek words (Theos) meaning "God" and (cratein) meaning "to rule."" It is not a club. We do not get o vote on the rules.

As a worthy member you are asked if you accept and support the Prophet as the only person on the earth with the keys to receive revelation for the whole church. This is one of those points. You are right, it is personal and you must decided, do you support the Prophet in all things? If not you have answered in the negative to one of the critical questions. If that is the case you need to decided if you a a piece of paper in your wallet or purse that you should not. It is a very personal question.

Elder Maxwell said it very well in 1978.

"...but the Church has always made a big deal about never telling it’s members who to vote for and how to vote."

I agree with you that the church has always stayed neutral when it concerns political partisanship and who or who not to vote for. However, it has NEVER stayed neutral on the subject of moral issues. NEVER!

I found this view point interesting. I've struggled myself with this issue on different issues. I have many dear friends that are gay. I don't look at them in any different way than my other friends.
However, I am true to my faith. I have a strong testimony in the gospel of Jesus Christ and that I do belong to the true church of God. That testimony also encompasses counsel from a true prophet and true apostles. They were the ones who penned the family proclamation which I also hold dear to my heart. It plainly states that a marriage is a union between one man and one woman. Plain and simple. SO as much as I love my friends with different preferences, I honor the laws set forth by God, and follow the counsel of men who are mouthpieces for God
. Just because I have a friend that is an alcoholic, does not mean I think they should raise the blood alcohol limit while driving. Just because I may have a friend that is a drug addict, does not mean that I think they should make marijuana legal.
There should be a separation of church and state. But that does NOT mean you should throw out any and every law that people may find ecclesiastical guidance in making a decision on. (Or all our laws may be lost)
Anyhoo, I've said my 2 cents worth. But no matter what view points one may have, it is ultimately between them and their God. We should not change things we believe in to "not hurt feelings" Would you worry about hurting the feelings of someone who steals? Who cheats? If so, maybe you should re-evaluate where your convictions truly lie.
